OUR VISION AND MISSION
Vision
Richmond residents spend more time outdoors, reaping the many benefits related to health and wellness, social justice, youth development/resilience, education, environmental stewardship, and the economy.
Mission
To expand equitable access to the outdoors for all Richmond residents, with a particular focus on those who don’t currently have regular access
OUR PRIORITIES
Communications: To share information with the general public about where and how to engage with the outdoors in Richmond. Ultimately, our website will operate as a “one-stop shop” for outdoor engagement resources in Richmond.
Transportation: To increase awareness of transportation options to outdoor spaces, as well as work with transportation agencies and other partners to increase these options. For example, we’re exploring the option with AC Transit of using their buses and bus stops as a way of communicating with residents about how to reach different parks and green spaces nearby.
Outdoor access landscape study → pathway of outdoor engagement: To work with an evaluation partner to understand the current opportunities for outdoor engagement in Richmond (and lay the groundwork for a “pathway of engagement,” in which Richmond residents will have ongoing, meaningful opportunities to engage with the outdoors). We began gathering baseline data through a community parks assessment, led by First 5 Contra Costa and the City of Richmond, in September 2018. We broke into small groups and collectively visited and assessed 25 parks in disadvantaged communities throughout the city.
